Tighten Loose Skin Without Surgery in Appleton, WI
What are NovaThreads?
NovaThreads at the Appleton, WI, Excelin Medical Spa are a non-invasive treatment to improve the look of loose and sagging skin. Polydioxanone (PDO) suture has been used for decades in surgery and is fully absorbed by the body over four to six months, stimulating collagen production without any scarring. This results in a natural improvement with no pain or surgery.
During the treatment, a preloaded needle is inserted into the skin. The thread is left beneath the skin when the needle is removed. Your skin gently reacts to the threads and begins repairing itself around the suture. The threads can be expertly placed to stimulate collagen in areas of volume loss or fill a fold, and also can be placed to pull and tighten the skin of the neck or jowls.

NovaThreads are a quick and easy way to get immediate results with long-term benefits. NovaThreads can be used on their own or can be a great enhancement to fillers and BOTOX®.
How Do NovaThreads Work?
Your skin gently reacts to the inserted threads. PDO is fully absorbable, but that doesn’t mean your skin won’t react to it. During the four to six months needed to fully absorb the PDO suture, your skin is also repairing itself around it by forming new collagen.
NovaThreads relies on the “selective inflammatory response” and is the principle behind many aesthetic procedures (such as Halo®, Vivace™, and microneedling). Our skin is very good at repairing itself, and by inserting NovaThreads, we make it heal itself by creating new collagen, naturally!
What Types of NovaThreads Are Available and What Do They Treat?
There are two types of NovaThreads: mesh threads and lift threads. The mesh thread technique is a quick and efficient procedure that improves the appearance of lips, the neck, and cheeks.
Lips can be easily enhanced using NovaThreads Smooth (for a slight enhancement) or NovaThreads Twist (for a little more volume). Most of the time no anesthesia will be needed, although at times a numbing cream can be used if necessary. The procedure itself will take 15 minutes and the results last about three to four months.
A lattice network of NovaThreads Smooth can be injected over a series of treatments to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the neck and cheek areas.
The lifting threads create a “skin repositioning” or tightening, depending on the kind of NovaThread used and the area of treatment. These barbed threads can be used to lift tissue on the jawline, cheeks, and neck.
After the barbed threads are injected into the skin, the removal of the needle creates a temporary tunnel, allowing the skin to be repositioned onto the barbs. This lifting/repositioning effect is always taking place in a upward fashion, in the direction of the needle entry point.
How Long Do the Results Last?
While the NovaThreads sutures absorb over four to six months, the collagen that is created in its place is lasting. The lifting effect of the NovaThreads does subside over time (usually a period of six to nine months), but then new NovaThreads can be inserted.
How Do I Know if I am a Candidate?
If you want to improve your facial contours or tighten loose skin, you may be a good candidate for NovaThreads. This treatment is not appropriate for patients with suture allergies or those who have very loose skin or deep-set wrinkles, as the results are not as predictable or lasting. The appropriateness of this—or any treatment—can be determined at an initial consultation. Schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. Victoria Negrete, MD, to see if NovaThreads are right for you.
